Most of us turn on the tap or flush the toilet without a second thought. Clean water flows in, wastewater flows out, and we go on about the day. But behind the scenes, there’s a hardworking and dedicated team making sure that happens every single day.
That’s why Governor Kim Reynolds has once again proclaimed August 17–23, 2025, as Water and Wastewater Workers of Iowa Week. This marks the 15th year in a row the state has formally recognized the men and women who keep our water safe and our communities healthy.
Across Iowa, water and wastewater operators work behind the scenes to provide safe, affordable drinking water to homes, schools, and businesses. They also manage wastewater treatment, protecting both public health and keeping our rivers, lakes, and groundwater free from pollution. While we’re generally unaware of all they do, their work is essential to our daily lives.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) joined in recognizing water and wastewater workers this week, encouraging all of us to take a moment to appreciate the people who keep our water flowing and our systems running. These are the folks who show up every day in rain or snow, heat or cold, to make sure something as simple as turning on the faucet is possible.
Water and Wastewater Workers of Iowa Week runs August 17-23, so be sure to take a moment to say “Thank you” to your Osceola Water Works employees for the critical work these people do quietly, reliably, and every single day!
