NOTICE:  DISCOLORED WATER   We are currently experiencing a larger than normal algae growth in West Lake.  Samples collected have detected elevated levels of algae.  We are working directly with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and made the decision to switch pulling water from the top intake of the lake to the lower intake. Changing intake levels has decreased the amount of algae, but we are seeing elevated levels of manganese.  Manganese is a common, naturally-occuring mineral found in rocks, soil, ground water and surface water. Payment Convenience Fee to Take Effect December 27th

In an effort to continue providing bill paying services through online card processing, as well as to offset service fees of over $7,500 annually to the utility customers, Osceola Water Works will be instating a convenience fee of 2.65% for each customer making their water utility payment with a debit or credit card. This fee will be applied to the billing program at the end of the day on December 27, 2019. Online Payment Convenience Fee

Effective December 1, 2018, Osceola Water Works will begin charging a $2.00 convenience fee for each customer making a utility payment utilizing the online payment site. Currently, the charge to Osceola Water Works for customer use of the online payment site is an item fee of $.25/transaction and a fee of .30% to .50% of the actual transaction amount depending on the card type and designation or approximately $7,700/year. Dry Winter and Low Water Levels Indicate Need for Water Conservation

The Osceola Water Works strongly encourages residents to watch water consumption in this dry winter weather. So far, Iowa’s weather hasn’t delivered on the necessary average snowfall of 25 inches that South-Central Iowa usually receives. While Osceola has seen some snow recently, totals are well below what is expected and needed to sustain water usage in Osceola and surrounding communities. Low water levels in West Lake currently measure at 5 feet below normal pool. If the area doesn’t receive significant precipitation soon, levels could drop even further.
